Fannin County Soil and Water Conservation District Directors Attend Area V Awards Banquet

The Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts Area V Awards Banquet was held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX on May 3, 2005. The purpose of the Conservation Awards Program is to recognize and honor Soil and Water Conservation Districts and individuals who have dedicated their time, efforts and talents to making wise use of renewable natural resources.

Carol Brinlee was honored with a third place win in the Essay Contest for ages fourteen and over. Carol won first place in the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation Districts essay contest "Celebrate Conservation" that was announced in February. Her sister Katerina placed second and Raven Finney of Honey Grove was the third place winner. The three district winners of the 13 and under essay contest were, Dylynn Hokett, Chelsea Cunningham and Alexia Daniels all of Honey Grove Middle School. All of these entries were entered into the Area V Essay Contest.

Carol is a home schooled senior who has a love for writing. She brings into her writing her extensive experience in 4-H and Girl Scouting. In her 4-H endeavors, Carol raises Cotswold and Merino sheep as well as English angora rabbits. She competes in wildlife habitat evaluation and forestry contests. She teaches outdoor education and is a certified archery instructor. Carol is the recipient of the 4-H Gold Star. Carol is very active in Girl Scouts where she excels in outdoor skills and education. For her Gold Award, she did an Outdoor Expo. She is currently working for the Girl Scouts as the Outdoor Education Specialist. Carol is planning to attend Texas A&M University this fall to study Wildlife and Fisheries.

The Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District and The Lennox Foundation is honored to be able to sponsor these youth of Fannin county and their endeavors to help conserve our natural resources.
